During my downtime over coronavirus quarantine, I’m taking this opportunity to educate myself with world-renowned experts to learn more about my skin, improve my beauty regimes (at home) and overall well being and share this knowledge with my followers on social.
The first of the series, is the topic of skin inflammation.
I was so excited to join two of my favourite doctors on their IGTV live chat: Dr. Michael Apa (@doctorapa) an expert in Aesthetic Dentistry and Dr. Barbara Sturm (@drbarbarasturm) a German aesthetics doctor who specialises age-defying skin solutions, an interesting topic that we all can relate – inflammation of the skin, causing acne that may be caused from neglecting from both dental and skin care.
According to Dr. Michael Apa (@doctorapa) tooth decay and infection causes the number of bad bacteria in the mouth to increase. The quantity of bacteria present in the mouth in turn leads to inflammation of the skin, causing acne. Pimples around the lips, chin, and lower cheeks can often be the result of cavities, gum disease, or overall poor dental health. In addition, studies have shown that the bad bacteria from an abscessed (infected) tooth or gum disease can get onto your face and cause skin irritation and breakouts.
Here’s three ways to reduce inflammation on your skin at home:
- Saltwater Rinse. Until you can get to the dentist, one of the best things you can do is swish warm, salty water around in your mouth.
